Haiti In Need – What YOU Can Do To Help

UNHAITI_1560508cThey say desperate times call for desperate measures.  If ever there was a time, this is it.  Although the ongoing reports continue to weigh in, the unprecedented destruction and death can not be sensationalized.  It is by all accounts, real and unbelievably heartbreaking.  Much of the country was just starting to recover from their bout with a tumultuous hurricane season when rocked by a 7.0 earthquake.  This is a peaceful nation who  in one fell swoop, by early accounts, has lost almost 2% of its citizens.

Red Cross Says Up to 3 Million Need Aid After Haitian Quake

You hear the numbers, 200,000 estimated deaths but if it’s not registering, think about this.

Haiti has a population of just over 9,000,000 people which is roughly the population of the State of Michigan.

The September 11th attacks left roughly 3,000 dead It will forever be etched just how devastating a day that was.

The United States has a population of approximately 300 million people.  Two percent would equate to roughly SIX MILLION deaths! The numbers are staggering.  The time to help is now and for years to come as the aftermath will prove to be a long hard road.

Over the past few years the United States and much of the world have faced many economic hardships and as a result, many of us have very limited resources, if any, to help those in need in Haiti.

Some advice:  Generosity and giving of time and money have very little do with what you have.  You’re either generous or you’re not.  In this case, you need to ask yourself if this is a situation that is worthy of your involvement.  Whether or not you can afford to give is not the question.  if you answer that this situation deserves support, you must find a way to help.  The fraudsters will be out in droves, ready to tug at your heart strings and take your money, so DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

Not sure where to start.  Here you go – an audio clip from the NPR (National Public Radio) will almost certainly provide you some direction.
